Inspiring Generations Through Education and Culture!
Dr. Sachchidananda Sinha, a renowned scholar, journalist, and statesman, played a pivotal role in shaping India’s educational and constitutional landscape. Serving as the provisional president of the Constituent Assembly of India in 1946, he envisioned the Sinha Library as a center of learning and literacy for the people of Bihar. With a deep commitment to education, he established the library as a public institution to provide scholars, students, and readers with access to a vast repository of knowledge. The library was officially inaugurated on February 9, 1924, by Sir Henry Wheeler, the then Governor of Bihar and Orissa, marking the beginning of what would become one of the most significant academic and literary institutions in the region.
Originally housed within Dr. Sinha’s own residence, the library started as a modest collection, catering to the intellectual needs of a growing readership. However, as its influence expanded, so did its collection of books, manuscripts, and research materials. Recognizing the increasing demand for a larger space, the institution underwent expansions to accommodate its ever-growing catalog and readership. Today, the Shrimati Radhika Sinha Institute and Sachchidananda Sinha Library stands as a grand testament to Bihar’s rich literary heritage, continuing to serve as a beacon of knowledge and education for generations to come.
